Car, truck, train and tram drivers will no longer be responsible for the deaths of many of the hundreds of pedestrians killed around this country.
And it goes further than that.
Drivers begin their lives as road users, firstly, as pedestrians.
The average age of drinkers having their first drink has been decreasing over some time.
08 will mean that junior age drinkers will be subject to random breath tests that will give an opportunity for police and parent counselling and the full force of the law should they be found to be over the limit.
Prior to any chance of obtaining a licence, a pedestrian .08 law will inculcate the idea of drinking below a limit.
This has to be a good thing for the driving culture of this country.

“Car, truck, train and tram drivers will no longer be responsible for the deaths of many of the hundreds of pedestrians killed around this country.”
Why would drivers be responsible for the deaths of any pedestrian, unless he/she drove through a red light, mounted the kerb, were speeding, etc? What does this statement have to do with pedestrian 08?
Good point Wyn. Whoever is to blame for a pedestrian getting killed – the driver or the pedestrian – many people of consience feel responsible Wyn. That’s where the damage often comes in. People who unintentional kill pedestrians through no proven fault of their own, can need counselling to ‘get over it’ Wyn. It happens.
